We’re going to space!

We’re going to space! Well almost. After seeing a couple of stories online about amateur teams of students and fellow geeks sending weather balloons with small payloads 18 miles into the atmosphere, we decided that we have to get in on the fun! Here ‘s a couple of links for reference: 1337arts & HALO.
Here’s the basic plan: using a weather balloon, a digital camera loaded with firmware used to take photos at specified intervals, some hand warmers and a mobile phone we plan to enter the lower reaches of space. While on the journey, our vessel will document it’s trip via text messages including GPS coordinates, status updates via Twitter & Facebook and (hopefully) some hi-res photos along the way.
