For this week’s meeting Lee Quessenberry introduced us to Drupal CMS.
Lee walked us through an actual installation of the CMS from the download of the core from the Drupal site, database creation (via Dreamhost, the best host in the world), transfer of files and finally site configuration. The entire process took about 10 minutes and we were up and running. Once Drupal was installed, Lee went on to explain how to download themes from Drupal, and other sites, and how to install them.
Next, we installed some modules on our newly created site. Lee explained how modules work, what types are available, as well as how to find reliable modules on Drupal Modules. The module we chose for installation was Web Form, a GUI form builder which allows you to build online forms using a simple, drag-n-drop interface. The module allows you to control the structure of the form, automatically includes validation for each input type (such as email address) and even allows you to store submissions to your database for later viewing and exporting within Drupal.
